Bathymetries dredging nourishments stabilization: Elements Works has the expertiese and the equipment to conduct them while keeping a very small environmental and visual footprint. We can operate also in situations where traditional approached cannot be applied.
On Bathymetries, Elements Works has several years of experience in the analysis of shallow water sites (like marinas, canals) using its state of the art SBES equipment coupled with advanced GIS analysis and rendering. Volumes of sediment can be computed whith high precision, prior or after a dredging initiative or to monitor the natural evolution of the sediment. The use of SBES, while perfectly adequate for shallow water, allows for a significant reduction in the final cost of an analisys with respect to MBES.
On Dredging, Elements Works has designed and built a custom semi-automatic barge which is so small and lightweight to be easily transportable also on land. Using of a state of the art Dragflow (TM) dredging pump, sediment is removed without dispersing it in the surrounding environment as the pump creates a depression and does not touch the ground. The sediment is then pumped away through small pipes to the desired location. This solution has been succesfully applied to Porto di Pisa, which remains operational during dredging activbities without affecting in any way the users. Elements Works can deploy the system basically anywhere, even if the site is not connected to the sea.
On Nourishments, Elements Works has patented an innovative underwater barrier, which can be deployed quickly at the site of deposit of sediment, and prevents dispersion of more volatile components before they settled on the sea floor. The barrier adapts automatically to the water depth so that it can work effectively wher ethe sea floor is not uniform or during changes in depth due to storms or tides.
On Stabilization, Elements Works has patented an underwater riforestation system which is very effective in creating patches of Posidonia Oceanica meadows. This system is recognized to be one of the most effective in stabilizing the sediment on the sea floor, with the added ecological advandage of enriching the underwater echosystem. The solution was tested succesfully in a pilot project off Elba island, commissioned by ASA Spa during 2017. The solution is modular and low cost, with a high success rate (100% after 8 months of monitoring in the pilot).
