Marina di Pisa HWEP1
Elements Works SRL and 40South Energy developed the first wave and tidal energy project to an Italian coastal community: the Marina di Pisa HWEP-IT1.
The machine has been installed on November 12th, 2015 and is now active. The installation has been sold to Enel Green Power on November 2016.
The acronym HWEP stands for “H-machines composed Water Energy Park”. The Marina di Pisa HWEP1 contains one generating set based on H24 machines, rated at 49,5kW. The communities closer to its location will have a strong interest in this project, because unlocking wave energy will bring a new primary economic engine to the area.
O&M has been taken care of by Elements Works from the beginning (for 40South Energy Srl) and is currently being carried out for 40South Energy Italia and Enel Green Power. The project served as a pilot.
You can view in this video the installation of the machine in Marina di Pisa:[kad_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/JwDwgMiOUMA” ]
You can also watch a nice video from 40South Energy which explains a little the functioning of the H24 machines:
Marina di Pisa HWEP1 is a Water Energy Park composed by H24 machines by 40South Energy. The WEP has been initially rated at 99kW, divided into two completely independent installations by 49.5kW each. The two 49.5kW generating sets were supposed to be completely separated, both in terms of ownership, in infrastructure and in grid connection.
Each 49.5kW plant was supposed to have its own cable to shore and its own energy meter, and accesses the 30 cents/kWh “omnicomorensiva” tariff. This tariff lasts for 15years.
The consenting has been completed, and grid connection has been put in place via directional drilling from Piazza Sardegna.
The machine has been installed on November 12th 2015 and commissioning was completed by December 11th. The consenting has been carried out by 40South Energy and Elements Works while the connection and energy meter were in the name of Elements Works SRL.
In the end the whole plant was sold to Enel Green Power.
23-01-2015: The consenting process is complete, and the final consenting document waits the signature of the competent authorities
01-06-2015: Final signature on consenting documents
16-09-2015: Grid connection completed, electrical box in place
12-11-2015: Deployment of the machine (you can see the video on YouTube from https://youtu.be/JwDwgMiOUMA)
december 2015 -february 2016: First conversions of electricity from waves
November 2016: Machine sold to Enel Green Power
